Sarah's Memorial Chapel In the Spring of 1924, Percy and Helen Peek the grandparents of Rufus "Butch" Alexander, opened the first funeral establishment in the 400 block of 8th Street in the City of Ft. Pierce, under the name of Peek's Funeral Home. The establishment was later located to its present site in 1928.
In 1960, Sarah, the daughter of Percy and Helen Peek, gradated from the Atlanta School of Mortuary science. She joined her parents and changed the name of the funeral home to Lee-Peek. She began her tenure of love in the funeral delivery service. Sarah established an ambulance which transported black patients to Gainesville, Tampa, West Palm Beach and Miami. She designed and developed the current van type ambulance now used around the world. She delivered babies and became a champion for the poor. Sarah was one of thirteen female licensed funeral directors and embalmers in the world. She was involved in the family business until her death in 1991.
Her son, Rufus, a graduate of Lynn University's Mortuary School, took over the reins of the business in 1992. This family owned business has a new member, Antonio Jackson, currently enrolled in the Miami-Dade School of Mortuary Science. He expects to join his uncle in the management of this family business.
After serving this community for over 82 years, this fourth generation of funeral directors look forward to continuing to serve its community
